cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran in san francisco with more on the big muni centennial. good morning, cate. >> reporter: good morning, frank. yes, happy birthday, muni! we're at geary and market actually the first muni line was put in on geary street here and it ran all the way down to 33rd avenue. to celebrate, services on all muni including the cable cars will be free as frank mentioned until 5 a.m. tomorrow. originally muni was planning to charge riders 5-cent fares instead because that was the original cost 100 years ago. to give you a little history, san francisco has had some form of public transit since 1851 when land developers operated horse-drawn buggies. 100 years ago in 1912 san francisco launched the u.s.' first municipal transit system. fast forward to muni now serving 200 million passengers a year on a network of 63 bus routes, a height rail system, streetcars and cable car lines and a light rail system. so it's come a long way since 100 years ago. again, they're offering free rides today and that's not the last time we'll see free rides. they will offer t
